The Canadian fintech startup scene has exploded and the banks are working hard to innovate and provide enhanced offerings. I’ve been working with Canadian banks and solution providers for many years and had the privilege of joining the judging panel of the 2016 Canadian Fintech Awards.  A black tie event was held last week in Toronto to recognize the winners and was attended by a veritable “who’s who” of Canadian fintech.

I also had the opportunity to spend some time with our banking clients in Toronto. I’m really pleased with the progress being made by Canadian banks, particularly in digital banking, and am eager to see the various pieces come together and presented to customers. Several of the banks are actively seeking out fintech partners in new areas and it’s great to see some of the efforts underway - - there's lots more to come here. Some of the award winners listed below will give you as sense for what the climate is like and how banks, startups and established fintech players are coming together.

About Jacob Jegher

Jacob Jegher is an experienced fintech executive and digital banking thought leader. He advises clients on emerging technologies and business strategies related to retail, small business, and corporate digital banking. Jacob provides strategic consulting to financial institutions and solution providers on issues ranging from digital strategy to vendor selection. In addition to his client-facing responsibilities, Jacob leads Javelin’s overall strategy, marketing, and product development efforts.

Most recently, Jacob was Vice President of Global Solution Marketing and Head of Analyst Relations at FIS, where he was responsible for marketing strategy efforts across all business units and solutions. Jacob also brings extensive expertise in the banking research and consulting field, having spent over 10 years as a Research Director at Celent.

Jacob has been widely quoted in the press, including in American Banker, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, The Globe and Mail, and Financial Post. He has given presentations at numerous industry and corporate conferences, including BAI Retail Delivery, NACHA Payments, and the Association for Financial Professionals.

Jacob is a judge and coach at the Innotribe Startup Challenge and a member of the BAI Retail Delivery Planning Committee.  Jacob holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Management Information Systems and Finance from McGill University.
