Overview

As the smartphone-toting population crosses the 50% barrier, there are new opportunities and challenges to rethink and re-engineer the consumer transaction experience using new imaging technologies. Typing in a credit card number in an online environment is cumbersome; but in a mobile environment, it becomes a true impediment to a sales conversion. Mobile scanning of a payment card through the camera function of a phone offers a faster and easier way to transmit data—and a better way to close the sale. And instead of driving to deposit a check, consumers can now use an app and a camera phone to send a mobile deposit to a bank account. Currently, 64% of the top 25 retail banks by deposit offer mobile deposit, with many of the largest banks in the U.S. rolling out mobile remote deposit capture services in the past year. This report provides key information from selecting which mobile imaging services to offer, to successfully rolling out and targeting the services to reach broad adoption, to vendor coverage. Actionable survey information will be provided, including consumer adoption of mobile deposit, desire for specific new mobile imaging services, demographic marketing data, and key segments to target.
